Our Lead Caregivers are experienced professionals who take on our most critical shifts, including fill-ins,
new client assignments, and training shifts with new caregivers. In addition to providing direct care, they
play a vital role in ensuring smooth transitions for clients, mentoring new team members, and maintaining
high standards of care.
The primary responsibilities of a Lead Caregiver align with standard caregiver duties while also including
additional supervisory and mentoring tasks, hands-on office training, field training for new caregivers and
clients, complete client visits, care starts, reassessments, caregiver reviews, and assist with other field
needs. Lead Caregivers must be available to work on short notice during their assigned availability times
and be prepared to assist any Caring Companions client within a 15-mile radius of their home.
Leadership Role & Expectations
The Lead Caregiver is expected to lead the rest of the Caregiving Team by setting a strong example of
professionalism, reliability, and expertise. They must:

Be action-oriented, providing hands-on care to a wide variety of clients.

Train, coach, and mentor caregivers to uphold the Caring Companions’ spirit.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Staffing:
Provide on-call coverage during assigned work hours (7am-7pm) for call-ins, caregiver emergencies, or sudden client needs.
Work shifts with new clients who have not yet been assigned a caregiver.
We have many clients who won’t accept a replacement caregiver when their primary caregiver
calls in because they don’t want a “new” person. Proactively visit clients and familiarize yourself
with their care plans to better understand their needs and care plans and establish yourself as
their first option for a “fill-in” caregiver - preventing canceled shifts, lost hours.
Caregiver Support - First 90 Days:
Assist with the start of care and introduce caregivers to clients on their first day.
Provide mentorship, ensuring weekly check-in calls and hands-on guidance when needed.
Ongoing Caregiver Support:
Offer coaching and training in clients' homes as needed.
Conduct caregiver supervisory visit - Medicaid Requirement is one per year
Offer feedback to caregiver to enhance performance and client satisfaction
Client Quality Assurance:
Conduct quarterly client quality assurance home visits - update care plan as needed
Operational & Administrative Duties:
Ensure caregivers adhere to company policies, care plans, and industry standards.
Attend weekly in-office meetings and provide hands-on training sessions as needed.
Maintain effective communication with families, healthcare providers, and management.
Go with Client Care Coordinator to new client meetings
Lead Caregiver Schedule & Expectations
Maintain an average of 20 scheduled caregiving hours per week.
Guaranteed Paid 30 hours per week - $18 Per Hour
One scheduled in-office visit per week for team meetings and/or teaching hands-on training,
unless covering a shift - shifts take priority over everything else.
Must be flexible, as schedules and responsibilities vary weekly based on client needs.
The Lead Caregiver is scheduled during their set days - ready to work.
Must be awake and ready to answer your phone by 7:00 AM on your workdays, in case of a call out.
The Lead Caregiver primarily covers open shifts (on-call emergencies, new clients, last-minute
schedule changes, etc.).
The Lead Caregiver plays a key role in ensuring high caregiver retention and client satisfaction.
If no call outs on that day - fill the hours with the supervisory tasks. Open shifts/Call-Outs take priority!
Requirements & Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)/Caregiver in an
agency or facility setting.
Knowledge of safe transfer techniques and equipment use, including:
- Hoyer lifts, wheelchairs, slide boards, sit-to-stands, and transfer with gait belt.
- Ability to train caregivers in these techniques.
