How We Train Our Caregivers

At Caring Companions, our commitment to exceptional, personalized in-home care starts with the extensive training and professionalism of our caregivers.

Online & Hands-On Training in Our Skills Lab

Training Our Caregivers:

Our goal is for both the caregiver and client to feel comfortable and confident—not only in the caregiver’s ability to provide high-quality care, but also in their ability to build a trusting, compassionate relationship that enhances the well-being of each senior we serve.

Requirement of General Training

Our caregiver orientation and basic training program is designed to set clear expectations and provide a solid foundation for success. Caregivers are introduced to our company’s mission, values, and high standards of care.

Hands-On Training

In our skills lab, we require caregivers to complete 4 hours of hands-on training. Caregivers learn and refresh essential caregiving techniques, ensuring they are fully prepared to provide the highest quality of care.

Training Shift / Meet & Greet

After completing both general and hands-on training, our caregivers are scheduled for a training shift or a meet-and-greet with their potential client. This initial interaction helps the caregiver become familiar with the client's specific needs and preferences. The length of the shift is tailored to the level of care required by the client, ensuring the caregiver is well-prepared to deliver personalized, attentive care from the very beginning.

Alzheimer's and Dementia Training

Our caregivers also complete 6 hours of specialized Alzheimer's and dementia training within their first 30 days, utilizing the renowned Teepa Snow's approach "Positive Approach to Care". This comprehensive training equips them with the skills and knowledge to provide compassionate, patient-centered care to those living with memory-related conditions.

Additionally, we require ongoing yearly training to ensure our caregivers stay up-to-date with the latest best practices, continuously improving the quality of care we provide.

How Training Helps Our Clients and Our Caregivers:

  • New caregivers are thoroughly taught and quizzed on the essential skills they will need to provide high-quality care. This ensures they fully understand and can apply their training in real-world scenarios, building their confidence and competence before working directly with clients. Through this process, we guarantee that every caregiver is equipped with the knowledge and abilities necessary to meet the unique needs of each individual they care for.

  • Experienced caregivers refresh their skills and knowledge before going into our clients’ homes, ensuring they are up-to-date with the latest techniques and best practices. This continuous learning process allows them to confidently apply their new skill sets, providing the highest level of care and adapting to the evolving needs of our clients.

  • Caregivers receive training in specialized care skills, including Alzheimer’s and dementia care. This equips them with the expertise needed to support clients with memory-related conditions, ensuring they provide compassionate, tailored care that meets the unique challenges these clients face.

  • Your caregiver will not only bring compassion but will also arrive as a highly trained professional, equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide exceptional care tailored to your needs.

  • Training helps us retain our best caregivers by offering increased pay and growth opportunities as they advance their skills. This commitment to professional development not only rewards our caregivers but also ensures they continue to provide the highest level of care for our clients.

Other Ways We Promote Professionalism:

  • Rigid pre-screening process

  • Drug testing at random

  • Annual background checks

  • Monthly EDL (Employee Disqualification List)

  • Apps to give caregivers access to care plan tools

  • GPS verified tracking of visits

Ongoing Supervision:

One of the many things that set us apart is the excellent ongoing supervision of caregivers. It is vital to ensuring quality home care. Through regular oversight and guidance, caregivers receive continuous support, feedback, and opportunities to improve their skills. This not only helps maintain high standards of care but also allows for early identification and resolution of any issues that may arise.

Please see our Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) Program. It is designed to ensure that all caregivers meet our rigorous standards. It includes:

  • Regular Assessments: Caregivers are evaluated on their performance, adherence to care plans, and overall professionalism.

  • Client Feedback: We actively seek feedback from clients to ensure their needs are being met and adjust care plans as necessary.

  • Ongoing Training: Caregivers are offered continuous education and refresher courses to stay current on best practices and improve their care delivery.

Through this program, we ensure that our caregivers not only maintain but continually elevate the quality of care provided, delivering the best possible outcomes for our clients.
